Keeping a metropolitan area's “No-kill” status is no easy task. Shelters are full and their staffs and volunteers work tirelessly. It is truly a labor of love. Oftentimes, shelters will have no or minimal adoption fee events to make room for incoming companion animals. Some adopters later find themselves in predicaments where they return the companion animal because of personal circumstance or are unable to provide for the animal's medical needs.
